History of the Department


The department of mathematics was established in 1975. The department offers undergraduate, postgraduate and master of Philosophy programmes. The Department became a Research Centre of Bharathidasan University to pursue the Doctoral Degree in various fields of Mathematics during 2011. The Department is enriched with a committed faculty, having a research aptitude and good academic records. The Department is catering to the educational needs of young girls hailing from the lower strata of the society.

Unique Features

The Department of Mathematics is well recognised for teaching and Research. It has 13 energetic and dedicated faculty members, among them 8 have completed Ph.D and two with SET and pursuing Ph.D. It produces professional Mathematicians who will be able to study and solve scientific and technological issues using mathematical methods. It also helps the other major students to face the competitive examinations it offers and executing and unique opportunity to Ph.D Students for pursuing research in the area such as Fuzzy Set Theory, Number Theory, Mathematical Modelling, Operations Research , Graph  Theory. The Department organises international Conferences linked to the Areas of our Research. Our Graduates of our department are distinctly placed in reputed institutions and organisations.
